My dad had a Liver Transplant today.
They called my parents @ 7:15 am this morning and told them to get to the hospital right away as they have a Liver. My dad was actually at the Barber Shop when they called....he's an early bird.
Anyway, I rushed to get to the hospital but the traffic sucked....my mom called and said they are taking him back shortly and I freaked....my GOD, I wasn't gonna be able to see my dad....I hurried and prayed and when I got finally there he was still in Prep and I got to see him. My SIL took her camera so I got pictures with him too. He was really quiet as I know he was sooooo nervous. We did tell him a few jokes and planned out next vacation to try to make him feel a little better....told him to think happy thoughts. The doctors and nurses were wonderful.
Anyway, they took him back and the whole surgery took about 4 hours. Everything went well. He has a 22 year old liver....
After the surgery we got to see him but he was out....while I was in there he woke up moved his legs and raised his hand and looked at me for a second....I told him he was fine and just to lay still. They gave him a continous line of "Margarita's" and are going to keep him out all night into the next day.
Tomorrow when he can breathe on his own they will take out his breathing tube.
He will be in the ICU for 3 days and then in Telemetry for the remainder for a total of 8-10 days.
Please keep my dad and our family in your thoughts and prayers...I finally have a sense of relief but the next 24 hours are critical.
Also, please pray for the family who lost their loved one today. It's always hard when someone has to die in order to save anothers life.
