Liver Transplant Day #3

My dad is doing EXTREMELY well today. They took off tons of tubes this morning and he sat up in his chair. They moved him to a regular room in Telemetry and he is more relaxed.

Today was a great day. He is already walking up and down the unit and rotating from his bed to his chair. He is a TROPPER!

He has two tubes in his side...one goes befind the liver and the other in front of the liver for draining. I was impressed today that a 25 year old 4th Year Medical Student came in to pull out the lateral tube (behind the liver) and stitched it up. He asked my dad if he wanted a poke and burn or just 2 pokes...my dad said RAMBO style. Meaning he did not want the poke to numb the area. He stitched it with out being numb. The NP that was there assisting said, "You are Rambo...I'm impressed". I got to watch the whole procedure....it was neat.

The big doctor came in today and told us that the new liver is working great...doing everything its supposed to do. So, if the doc is happy then we're doing good.

Anyway, tomorrow they will take his NG tube out (in his nose) and hopefully someday he will be able to eat. Once that happens my dad says he will be a happy man.

The doctor said he will at least have to stay until Monday....and then they will decide.

The staples come out next Friday. They call his incsion a Mercedes incision....as that is what it looks like.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers....everyday is a miracle!
